Joshimath, also known as Jyotirmath, Joshimath, which is also known as Jyotirmath, which is a sacred place in the state of Uttarakhand. It is the winter seat of Lord Badri and is highly revered due to the fact that Adi Shankaracharya established one of the four 'Maths' here in the 8th century. Joshimath is located at a height of 6150 feet, it is a gateway to several Himalayan mountain climbing expeditions, trekking trails ( Kuari Pass, Valley of Flower, Niti Pass ....... ), and pilgrim centers like Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, Bhavishya Badri, Narshing Mandir, Vishnuprayag .... and many more. This town tends to receive bitterly cold snowfall during December and January. It is a beautiful place among hills and famous as the winter abode of Bhagwan Badrinath as the idol is brought down from Badrinath Temple to Narsingh Temple in Joshimath during winters. One can see Kalpvriksha, the oldest tree in India which is believed to be 1200 years old.
